Project info.

This is a series of sub-brand identities developed under Honguo Short Drama, each positioned around a distinct short drama vertical. arbbra was commissioned to design the overarching brand system — with the core challenge not being the design of any single brand, but the creation of a methodology capable of producing multiple brands quickly and consistently.

The problem this project needed to solve was more complex than designing a brand. It needed to design a way of producing brands at scale.

Honguo, as the parent brand, carries established visual DNA and strong user recognition. Each sub-brand needed to grow from that DNA — retaining enough family resemblance to be immediately legible as part of the same ecosystem, while developing its own distinct character rooted in its individual name and positioning. This is a design problem about systems and elasticity: the structure must be stable enough to deploy quickly, and the variables must be rich enough to give each brand its own face.

The design system was built around these two dimensions. The fixed layer defines the shared language of the family — the logic of form, typographic structure, and core graphic relationships — keeping all sub-brands visually connected at the root. The variable layer is determined by each brand's name and character: typeface choices, color shifts, and graphic details all adjust to the personality of the individual brand. The name changes, the character follows; but no matter how far the variation goes, the family origin remains immediately readable.

The value of this system is not the precision of a single output — it is the stability and efficiency it delivers at scale. As short drama content is produced faster and faster, brand production needs to keep pace. This project explores a way of working where design can grow as quickly as content does.
